Types of Main Doors

There are many types of Main Door being offered by many suppliers in the Market. Renovaid Team, on the other hand only offered the following types of Main Door:

Nyatoh Plywood Main Door

Nyatoh Plywood Main Door is made from nyatoh sheet glued and pressed together on the Plywood with adjacent layers to create design similar of Nyatoh. Nyatoh Plywood Main Door is usually varnished to obtain natural wood grain design. It can also be painted however it is not recommend as the finishing might not be ideal in the long run.

If you think that Nyatoh Plywood Main Door is monotonous, we can also create additional designs into Nyatoh Plywood door to complement your taste and liking. But that will come with additional cost for material used.

Veneer Plywood Main Door

Veneer Plywood Main Door is made from thin layers or "plies" of wood veneer sheet glued and pressed together, with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another on plywood. Veneer Plywood door also known as "Designer Doors" and is popular with home owners when  replacing new doors for their home.

If you want your main door to be different from your neighbour, you can add design/ material to your new veneer main door. That will come with additional cost for your new veneer door due to additional material used.

Laminate Main Door

Laminate Main Door is made with a layer of 1mm high pressure laminate glued and pressed with a 3mm plywood while internal solid core will either be masonite or composite wood core. The side of the door will be process with matching ABS trim. Laminate Main Door also known as "High Pressure Laminate/ Formica Door" is gaining its popularity in Singapore.  Laminate Door is also known for its scratch and sound resistant. 

If you want your main door to be outstanding in your neighbourhood, you can piece up different laminate and add design/ material to your new laminate main door. That will come with additional cost for your new laminate door due to additional material used.

Nyatoh Timber Main Door

Nyatoh Timber Main Door is made from solid nyatoh timber/ panels glued and joined together  to create different designs. Nyatoh Timber Door is well liked by many due to its classic and timeless design. Nyatoh Plywood Main Door is usually varnished to obtain natural wood grain design. It can also be painted however it is not recommend as the finishing might not be ideal in the long run.

Measurement of Main Door

​Do you know that there are different size/ measurement for main door in Singapore. Most of us reside in HDB Flats and there are at least 2 types of measurements. 

For Main Door with the following measurement, Width 3ft x Height 7ft / Width 915mm x Height 2130mm / Width 91.5cm x Height 2.13m falls into category of Single leaf main door.

For Main Door with the following measurement, Width 4ft x Height 7ft / Width 1220mm x Height 2130mm / Width 1.22m x Height 2.13m falls into category of Double leaf main door.

The thickness of the main door is quite standard for HDB Flat at 42mm or 1 5/8" for non fire-rated main door and 45mm or 1 6/8" for fire rated main door. #

​The thickness of the main door varies for Condo at 42mm or 1 5/8" for non fire-rated main door and 45mm or 1 6/8" to 51mm or 2" for fire rated main door.

For those residing in Condo, please check with your management if you are allow to replace your existing door. Your Condo Management might have a set of standard for replacement of condo main door.

Getting to know the measurement of your current main door is important. It will help you in your budgeting and choosing the type of main door that suit your house theme.

As we mentioned earlier, there are two types of measurement for HDB flats. Do check which type of main door you have based on our pictures above. Please note that you cannot convert a double leaf door (4ft x 7ft) into a single leaf door (3ft x 7ft).

Fire Rated or Non Fire Rated Main Door

For HDB Flats with more than 30 years of age, your existing main door might not be fire rated unless the previous owner change it. You might want to check with the owner if you are in the midst of sales and purchase of the flat you are getting.

For those with single leaf main door and HDB flat build after 1992-1995 (sorry we do not have a confirm number), it is likely that your existing main door is fire rated however you have to check on the fire seal that is on the side of the door for confirmation.

For those with double leaf main door, high chance that your existing main door is fire rated however you still have to check on the fire seal that is on the side of the door for confirmation.

For confirmation or clarification if you required to have fire rate main door during replacement, please check with HDB. The respective department will be able to advise you accordingly. The minimum requirement for fire rated main door will be 30 minutes.
